The only thing better than cake, is more cake!
...And there was plenty of cake to go around at the wonderful bake off, hosted by Firstlings Care Home in Heybridge on August 8th 23.
Six homes from the Maldon District came together to compete to be crowned bake off champion! For the first time in a long time, the sun shone down on the guests from Boucherne, Longfields, Hailey House, Southminster, Squeaks and of course the residents of Firstlings.
The staff at Firstlings, had set up a beautifully decorated marquee which allowed everyone a great view of our entertainer Ed Talbot who had some of the residents up and dancing while others shook their maracas at the table.
While our judges, Cllr Andrew Lay, local author Rosie Sandler, Rhian, Tesco Community Champion, Sargent Gary Ridgeway and some of his Sea Cadets and Isaac Standen judged the incredible cake entries, the residents were treated to a wonderful savoury lunch served by the sea cadet volunteers, followed by samples of the cakes themselves.
A raffle was drawn while the scores were added up, which added another fun element to the morning.
Finally the winner was announced with the delicious entry from Hailey House coming first, followed by Firstlings and in 3rd place Boucherne.
When it was time for the residents to return to their homes, they were given favours to take home as a memory of the day.
Very well organised, especially being outside and being given a buffet
